Where Should I Avoid Using a Floating Popup?
Floating popups are useful at collecting email addresses or showing users information at the right time, but they work best when they complement the users experience.
If you've installed Gleam Captures on your website you may way to ensure you avoid displaying popups or forms on the following pages:
- On high-intent pages like checkout or signup forms: These moments require focus. Interrupting users when they’re entering payment info or completing a form can create friction and increase abandonment rates.
- On mobile layouts with limited screen space: Floating popups can easily crowd smaller screens, especially if your design isn’t responsive. Use banners or slide-ins instead for a cleaner experience.
- On pages with multiple interactive elements: If your page already includes chat widgets, sticky navigation bars, or other overlays, a floating popup can feel cluttered or confusing.
- Immediately on page load: Let visitors explore first, trigger the popup based on scroll depth, exit intent, or time on page. Floating popups should feel like a helpful suggestion, not an ambush.
You can customise which pages Captures do not show on by excluding them using the Current URL rule:
You can also delay the Capture from loading or show it after the user scrolls a certain percentage of the page using various rules provided in Capture:
