Where Should I Place a Floating Popup in the Mobile Version of My Website?

On a phone, keep your Capture small and at the edge of the screen. A Bar pinned to the top or bottom is the safest choice, because visitors can still read the page around it.

  1. On your Capture's Setup tab, choose Bar as the type, or Floating for a small box.
  2. For a Bar, set Position to top or bottom, and Display Mode to Sticky (moves with scroll), Static or Scroll (hides when scrolling down).
  3. On the Targeting tab, click Add New Rule, choose Browser, then Device, and tick Mobile.
  4. Create a second version for desktop if you want a bigger design there.

Bottom is easier to tap with a thumb. Top works if your site already has a sticky bottom menu or chat button, because two things fighting for the bottom edge looks broken. Check it on a real phone either way.

Google's guidance on intrusive interstitials says not to cover the entire page, and to use banners that take up a small fraction of the screen instead. A small Bar fits that advice. A full-screen popup on mobile doesn't.
