How Many Other Actions Should I Run Beside an Upload?

Two at most, if the uploads are what you want. On Gleam giveaways, an optional upload with two other actions beside it was completed by 31.5 percent of Entrants at the median. With three or four beside it, 4.6 percent. With five to seven, 2.0 percent. With eight or more, between 0.7 and 1.2 percent. The figures cover 7,485 optional upload, media and submit-URL actions on competitions with 100 or more Entrants, May 2020 to August 2026.

Why the drop is so steep

Every extra action is an easier way to earn an entry than the upload. A visit completes at a third to two fifths of Entrants, a follow at a fifth, an email at a ninth. A file completes at one in a hundred once it has a dozen one-click alternatives. On the same widgets, the upload was the least completed action in 48 percent of campaigns.

Position does not rescue it

Moving the upload to the first tile did not help. Completion was 1.2 percent in the first position and 1.0 percent seventh or later, on widgets of six or more actions. The same move takes an X Follow from 45 percent to 20 percent, so position is a real lever for one-click actions and no lever for uploads.

How to build the widget

Pair the Upload Action with an email action and one share action, and stop. If you need a long widget for other reasons, make the upload mandatory instead, which took completion to 79 percent at any length. The approach for the whole widget is in Competition Setup.

Do UGC Giveaways Get Fewer Entrants?

Yes when the upload is the point, and no when it is one tile among many. On Gleam's Business plan, a two-or-three-action UGC giveaway reached a third of the Entrants of a comparable giveaway without one, while thirteen-action giveaways reached the same number either way.
