Can I Add a Follow on Instagram Action?

The Follow on Instagram action is available again. Meta updated its incentivized-actions policy to allow platforms like Gleam to reward people for following an Instagram account, so we've added Follow on Instagram and Like a Facebook Page back as competition actions.

Instagram's API is still limited. Gleam can't automatically verify that someone actually followed your account; we can only confirm that they visited your Instagram profile and captured the username they entered.

The Follow action sends contestants to your Instagram profile, where they can choose to follow you.

Edit your campaign, and under the How to Enter tab, select the Follow on Instagram action and enter your Instagram username.

Contestants will visit your Instagram profile, then complete a verification step where they enter their Instagram username to complete the entry.

Instagram's API doesn't allow third-party apps like Gleam to verify a follow automatically. We can only confirm the user visited the profile and capture the username they entered. Before announcing a winner, cross-check their Instagram username against your followers list to confirm they actually followed.

Follow and Like actions were removed in 2016 to comply with Meta's incentivized-action policy at the time. Meta has since updated that policy to permit incentivizing follows and likes, which is why both actions are available again.
