What Are Best Practices for Designing an Effective Poll?

A good poll asks one clear question that answers something you actually need to decide. Work out the decision first, then write the question.

  1. Open the How to Enter tab and click Add a Way to Enter.
  2. Add a Question Action and pick the type:
    • Single Choice when you want one answer, like "Which flavour should we launch next?"
    • Multiple Choice when more than one answer can be true
    • Choose Image for designs, packaging or artwork. Each image can be up to 5MB.
  3. Add your options, one per line.
  4. Switch on Show Poll Results After Answering so voters see the live results.

  • Keep the options short and make sure they don't overlap.
  • Add an "Other" option if you're not sure you've covered every answer, or use Answer a Question for open replies.
  • Ask one question per action. If you need several, add several actions so each result stays clean.
  • Say in the description what you'll do with the result. People vote more when they know it counts.

If nearly everyone picks the same answer, your options were probably too easy, so rethink them for the next poll.
