Nevada Contest and Sweepstakes Laws

Nevada's lottery law is in NRS Chapter 462. NRS 462.105 defines a lottery as a scheme to distribute property by chance where participants have paid or promised valuable consideration. NRS 462.250 makes operating an unauthorised lottery a gross misdemeanor.

Two exceptions exist, and neither suits a typical brand giveaway. Qualified charities can run registered charitable lotteries under NRS 462.140, and NRS 462.105 carves out promotions run by licensed gaming establishments.

For a giveaway, that leaves you two routes: remove payment with a free alternative method of entry (see what an AMOE is), or remove chance by judging on skill and picking winners manually. Gleam shows the free alternative where it's legally required once you set it up.

This isn't legal advice, so check with a Nevada lawyer before you launch. Sources:
