How Can I Run a Legal Sweepstakes in the United States?

State rules add more:
- New York: promotions offering chance-based prizes over $5,000 must be registered with the Department of State under General Business Law section 369-e before they start, with a $100 fee and a bond or deposit covering the prizes. See the Department of State.
- Florida: under section 849.094, prizes over $5,000 must be filed with the Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services at least 7 days before the start, with a $100 fee and a trust account or bond.
