How Do I Calculate Cart Abandonment Rate?

Published on September 29, 2025

The formula to calculate cart abandonment rate is:

Cart Abandonment Rate = (1 - Completed Purchases ÷ Created Carts) × 100

For example, if 1,000 carts are created and 300 are completed, your abandonment rate is:

1 - (300 ÷ 1,000) = 70% abandonment.

Tracking this metric helps identify if checkout changes or recovery strategies are improving performance. Using a Pop Up with a Coupon code will help you reducing that rate.
