What Are Verified Actions or Entries in Rewards?
Gleam automatically verifies most action types in Rewards, including email signups, website visits, YouTube visits, Typeform submissions, and most others. We handle verification automatically via API, or by connecting with each platform in the background, so you don't have to worry about it.
However, a handful of social platforms have removed third-party verification, so follows on X (formerly Twitter), TikTok, Instagram, and Threads can no longer be automatically verified and need a manual check before you unlock a reward or claim.
What Gleam verifies automatically
Actions confirmed via API or webhook include:
- Subscribe Action (email signup to your ESP)
- Visit Action (website or page visit)
- Question Action submissions
- Upload Action for file submissions
- YouTube channel visits, Twitch follows, Discord joins, and most other supported integrations
For these, Gleam stores proof of completion alongside the action, which you can spot-check at any time.
Actions that require manual verification
Four social platforms have restricted or removed the APIs Gleam previously used. Gleam can confirm the member opened the correct page, but not that the follow, tweet, or comment actually happened:
- X (Twitter) follows, tweets, retweets: Twitter's API changed after the rebrand to X
- TikTok follows: TikTok does not provide a follow-verification API
- Instagram follows and comments: Instagram restricts third-party verification (post-comment imports are available on Business plan and above)
- Threads follows: Threads does not provide a follow-verification API
This is a platform-side limitation, not a Gleam bug. It applies on every plan and every campaign.
How to handle unverifiable actions in Rewards
Unlike the Competitions app, Rewards unlock automatically as soon as an action is completed, so there's no review window before a claim goes through. This means, for follows on X, TikTok, Instagram, and Threads, you're relying on the member's honesty. To reduce that risk, pair unverifiable social actions with an auto-verified one like a Subscribe Action or Visit Action as the primary qualifying entry, so you're not relying on trust alone.
If control over who claims a reward matters to your campaign, the Competitions app gives you a an opportunity to manually verify winning entries before any public announcement is made, or any prize is awarded.
