What Should I Avoid When Doing YouTube Giveaways?

Most YouTube giveaway problems come from rewarding the wrong thing or skipping the rules. Avoid these:

  1. Rewarding subscribes, views, likes or comments. YouTube's fake engagement policy prohibits content that exists only to drive engagement, so we removed those Actions. A Visit YouTube Channel Action from the YouTube Actions list is fine.
  2. Charging to enter. YouTube's contest policies say a contest must be free to enter.
  3. Implying YouTube is involved. Your official rules must say YouTube isn't a sponsor and release YouTube from liability.
  4. Thin rules. They also need the legally required disclosures, a privacy notice and a link to YouTube's Community Guidelines.
  5. Taking ownership of entries. You can't make entrants hand over all rights to what they submit.
  6. Running it through ads. YouTube doesn't allow contests in ad units.

Gleam generates Terms & Conditions for every Competition, and you can write your own on the Hobby Plan and above. Either way, check they cover YouTube's list before you launch. This isn't legal advice.
