How Can I Do a Video Game Pre-Launch to Test Features?
Use a Gleam Reward to hand out beta keys, then ask testers what they think with Question Actions. A Competition works too if you only have a few keys and want to draw winners.
- Create a Reward and open the Reward tab.
- Choose Coupon Code as the type.
- Paste in your keys, one per line, or choose Upload a list. Each person gets their own key, and each key works once.
- On the How to Redeem tab, click Add a Way to Claim and add what testers must do to unlock a key.
- Answer a Question to ask about their platform, genre or what they'd test first
- Single Choice questions to vote on features, with Show Poll Results After Answering switched on
- Join a Group on Steam to grow your Steam Community group
- Discord Entry so players can claim with their Discord account
- Join a Server, switched to Mandatory, if the beta is for members of your Discord server
- A Subscribe Action so you can email testers about new builds
Note
Pitch the beta as a perk for your members, never as a reason to join. As the server owner, you're responsible for following Discord's rules.
Once the build is out, the Play a Game action checks hours played on Steam, which is a handy way to reward the testers who actually played.
