I'm Having Problems Completing Actions

Here are some common issues associated with completing actions on Gleam. If you're not sure where to start, clearing your browser cache and trying a different browser resolves the majority of issues.

What Are Actions?

Actions are the steps entrants take in Gleam campaigns to earn entries or unlock rewards — subscribing, visiting, following, answering questions. Most are auto-verified, a few need manual checking. Click to expand for the full breakdown.

Many Gleam actions work by taking you to another site or opening a new tab, then detecting that you returned. If your browser blocks cross-domain tracking, Gleam may not be able to confirm the action completed and the Continue button will stay greyed out.

Browsers that commonly block cross-domain tracking by default include Brave, Edge, and Opera. If you're having trouble with any "visit and return" action, try switching to Chrome or Firefox with default settings, or check your browser's privacy/tracking settings and allow cross-site tracking for gleam.io.

If the authorisation window doesn't appear when connecting a social account, pop-ups may be blocked in your browser. Allow pop-ups from gleam.io, or temporarily disable any browser extensions that control this behaviour, then try again.

If you see an "Authorization Failed" message on any platform, try disconnecting and reconnecting your account. See: How to Reconnect Your Social Profile to Gleam

Gleam can automatically verify actions that take you to an Instagram page (such as Visit a Profile or View a Post on the main feed or Reels). However, Follow on Instagram and Comment on Instagram cannot be automatically verified due to Instagram's API restrictions. For these actions, Gleam takes you to the profile or post and asks for your Instagram handle. If you win, the campaign host will manually verify you completed the action.

If you're entering an Instagram comment competition via a third-party import (not through the widget), this is handled separately. In that instance, the campaign host imports comments directly from the post.

TikTok video won't play / Continue button stays greyed out: If you're using Incognito or Private mode, embedded TikTok videos may not load inside the widget. Click Watch Now to open the video in a new tab, and after a few seconds of watching, the Continue button should activate. If it still doesn't, exit Incognito mode and try again in a regular browser window.

Some browsers block the cross-domain tracking that Gleam uses to detect when you've opened an external link, which can also prevent the Continue button from activating. See the Cross-Domain Tracking section above.

TikTok follow actions: Follow on TikTok cannot be automatically verified, as TikTok's platform doesn't provide an API for this. Gleam confirms you visited the profile, and the campaign host will manually verify the follow if you win.

If you're seeing a warning that your account looks like a throwaway, or having trouble authorising X/Twitter, see our dedicated guide: X/Twitter Throwaway Account Warning & Authorisation Issues

Note that due to changes in X/Twitter's API, Gleam can confirm you visited the relevant page but cannot server-verify that a follow, tweet, or retweet was completed. Campaign hosts are advised to manually verify Twitter actions when selecting a winner.

Facebook login in Chrome can fail due to how Chrome handles third-party cookies. If you see a blank window or the login doesn't complete, try the following:

  • Switch to a different browser (Firefox, Safari, or Edge)
  • Clear your cookies in Chrome and try again
  • Disable any ad blockers or privacy extensions and retry

If you see an "Email in Use" message, see our dedicated guide: Email Already in Use. If you're being asked to verify your login via a social account, this is a security step triggered by an active session on another device or browser. Please follow the on-screen prompt to continue.

This indicates a restriction on your IP address or account. See our dedicated guide: Too Many Entries

You may get this error when completing Twitch.tv related actions. Twitch.tv has a follow limit of 2,000 channels per user. We suggest reducing the number of channels you follow to complete the action.

If the Play a Game on Steam action isn't verifying, your Steam playtime may be set to private. To fix this, open Steam and go to your Profile → Edit Profile → My Privacy Settings, then uncheck "Always keep my total playtime private even if users can see my game details." Once your playtime is publicly visible, the action should verify correctly.

Not all Competition hosts use our post-entry confirmation email feature, so you may not receive confirmation emails after entering a campaign. Ask your campaign host or sponsor directly if you need to confirm your entries were received.

Tip

Still having trouble? The campaign host is your best first contact for anything related to your specific entries, as they can check and manage these directly from their dashboard. For technical issues, you can also contact Gleam support at gleam.io/contact. Please email from the address you used to enter and include a link to the campaign to help us look into it faster.

You need to sign in using the same social network account that you previously connected to Gleam. The social account must also be linked to the email address you're trying to sign in with.
