What Are Actions?
Actions are the steps an entrant takes inside a Gleam campaign — subscribing to your newsletter, visiting your site, following you on social, or answering a question — to earn Competition entries or unlock Rewards. Each action is built on a platform integration, so most are verified automatically when the entrant completes them. A handful require manual winner verification due to platform-side API limits.
Where to find the full lists
Gleam offers 90+ actions across email, social, video, gaming, and custom integrations:
Each list flags inline which actions need a manual check before announcing a winner.
Some actions require manual winner verification
A few social platforms have removed or restricted the APIs Gleam previously used to confirm completion. Gleam can confirm the entrant opened the correct page, but not that the follow, tweet, or comment actually happened. The affected platforms are:
- X (Twitter) — Twitter's API changed after the rebrand to X
- TikTok — no follow-verification API available
- Instagram — third-party follow/comment verification restricted (post-comment imports available on Business plan)
- Threads — no follow-verification API available
This is a platform-side limitation, not a Gleam bug. For the full breakdown of how to verify manually before unlocking a reward or announcing a winner, see What Are Verified Actions in Rewards.
Custom Actions and Import Actions
Need an action that isn't in the list? Custom Actions let you define your own action with your own validation method — for example, asking entrants to create an account on your platform with custom action tracking handling verification.
Import Actions let entrants act directly on social media (replying to a tweet, posting a hashtag, etc.) and pull those entries into your campaign without the entrant interacting with the widget.
Actions are also called entry methods inside the Gleam app — both terms refer to the same thing.
