Should I Choose Facebook Pixel, Conversions API or Both?

Use Facebook Conversions API as your main setup, and add the Facebook Pixel only if you already run it elsewhere on your site.

The Conversions API sends events from a server, which makes it more reliable and more privacy-friendly than a pixel that runs in the entrant's browser. If you run both for the same event, Meta can count that conversion twice unless you tell it the two events are the same.

  1. If you only use Gleam for the Competition, set up the Conversions API alone. That's enough.
  2. In the Post Entry tab of your Competition, choose Facebook Conversions API under Pixel Tracking and add your Pixel ID and Pixel Token. The full steps are in our Post Entry tab guide.
  3. If you also run a Facebook Pixel on your site for broader analytics, you can keep both. Send the same event_id from the pixel and from the Conversions API so Meta can deduplicate the events.
  4. Set that deduplication up in Meta's Events Manager. Gleam doesn't handle it for you.

Deduplication details depend on how your site and Meta account are set up, so a developer or your Meta support contact is the best person to check them. If the Conversions API isn't recording events from your Competition, send us your campaign link through our contact form.
