What’s the 90/10 Rule on Reddit?

It's an unwritten rule of thumb. For every ten posts or comments, about nine should be you joining in like anyone else, and at most one should point at your own product, site or giveaway.

Reddit's own rules don't set a ratio. Its spam policy asks people whose posts are mostly links to their own business to watch how often they post, or to use Reddit ads instead. Moderators decide the rest, and each subreddit sets its own self-promotion rules. Some allow a link on set days, others ban promotion outright.

Before you share an offer:

1. Build a posting history in the subreddit first.
2. Read the sidebar and wiki for rules on giveaways and discounts, and message the moderators if it isn't clear.
3. Post once, say you're the one running it, and answer questions in the comments.
